Do you collect by theme?

I'm just curious as a fairly new collector, do you collect by theme or do you use some other system? If you collect by theme, what made you decide to choose that particular theme?

I don't collect exclusively by theme but I do have a penchant for 1930's transport. All that streamlining is just so evocative of the era and the artwork is just wonderful.

I do collect by theme, but also anything I like. The theme I chose was birds because they make attractive subjects and don't cost the earth - as you'll find if you go for cricket and football (or Clowns... ;)). It has also helped spur my interest in other themes because most manufacturers issued series containing parrots, aviary and caged varieties, poultry and fowl and other species. As a result then, I have found myself learning about all the different issuers and whilst flicking through albums at meetings and conventions you'll find you stumble on other series you like.

What I've found, and I dont know if other members have found this too (?), is that there are people that have a major route of collecting (birds, military, transport etc) but that also have a minor avenue (e.g. Boer War cards or Beauties). I'd be interested to hear if anyone collects exclusively one topic and nothing else!?

Hello

I am a collector of association football cards. I like most cigarette cards in general just for their history.  However, my love for this universal sport and its long record of products world wide fascinates me.

Since it is impossible (or at least improbable) that I can complete the many sets produced, I try to get a quality sample (one from each set) from as many sets that I can find.

If anyone has any that they have to offer or swap, please let me know. I am in the U.S.A. and do not have the luxury of card fairs or cigarette card dealers.

I look forward to chatting with many of you members.
