football book with cards
« on: April 01, 2015, 06:34:09 PM »
Ok noticed that this poor section had nothing in and needed some love. So not strictly a card book but it does use cards for its pictures, maybe because they are the only known pics of the folk in existence.

Book will be of interest to football fans.

"All with smiling faces, how Newcastle became United 1881 - 1910" by Paul Brown published by Goal-Post.

Nothing too startling the title says it all really, but this is not a boring book in any sense of the word. The love the author has of NUFC shines through and it is written in a style that a good teacher or lecturers would use informal but informational.

As for the cards in the book try these ones.

Team postcard from 1893 1894 season
Newcastle East End shields by  Sharpe 1892
Robert Sinclair's cigarette cards 1898
Ogdens newcastle United magpie card
Singletons and Coles footballers 1905
Ogdens 1908
Taddy prominent footballers 1907

Anyway you get the idea, a good little book charting the early history of a great team, and some cards thrown in as well.
