Northern Cigarette Card Rally - this Saturday
« on: October 24, 2017, 09:31:20 AM »
Hi guys,

I just wanted to give a quick reminder for those in the North that there is the annual Northern rally taking place this coming Saturday (28th) in Haughton Le Skerne near Darlington (DL1 2DD) 10am to 4pm. I think there are 4 major dealers in attendance including John Shaw so there'll be plenty of cards available!

Entry will be £2 for collectors and free for CGSB members and children.

Hope to see some of you there!

Thanks,
Sam

Might try it one day Sam, but it's such a long way from down here on the so-called sunny south coast!

Just a reminder for anyone in the north of England... the Annual Northern Rally is taking place tomorrow. I'll be there from about 9am and the bar will be open all day serving a good range of beers and toasted cheese sandwiches.

I had a good day in the end thanks. I managed to find a full set of 72 Robert Berger (Poessnek) Birds which I was really pleased to get and a load of really clean large Aviary and Caged Birds for 50p each. I managed to get a couple of CWS Parrots too so I am now only one short with a couple to improve.

I know others bought plenty of cards and the dealers seemed happy. I would definitely recommend a trip next year for those living up north!

Well done.  They look much nicer than mine which appear to have been ripped out of an album after having been stuck in  :(

Thanks. I am not sure when they were issued actually so didn't know whether any continental catalogues listed them with a date? I would guess around 1900 or just before?

According to Köberich they were issued in 1910.

Superb, thanks for the info! It's one reference book that I don't have but really want. I'll have to keep an eye out for a copy at meetings and fairs.

There are two of them, pre-1945 and post-1945.  Latest pre-1945 is the 7th edition, 2010.  There's one here:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/1101-Katalog-Koberichs-Reklame-und-Sammelbilder-1872-1945/112301185460?hash=item1a25ac19b4:g:J6oAAOSw-vlVm44T
for example.
Or from the man himself:

The post-war one seems to stop at 2001.  Last time I spoke to Köberich he wasn't planning on producing any more of either.

Must get out more and see whats available at these fairs, was it just 4 dealers or was there many other private collectors showing the duplicates.
Always looking for interesting cards and associated goods issued by Ogden's you can see samples of cards I am looking for in the wants section.
Best Regards David
