I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this firm which I presume is a card dealer.

Can't help you there, sorry Alan.  As you probably already know, the card appears to show J E "Ned" Doig of Sunderland in a picture from 1901.  There doesn't seem to be much at the dealer's address nowadays assuming the houses haven't been renumbered:

It's a pity he's not still in business, I'd certainly buy 500 cards for 1/8d!! I presume the card was stamped some time after it was issued, perhaps in the 1920's or 1930's.

To add some possible social history to the above person named P. Davey.

There was a "Percy Davey", born Plymouth in 1887, who was noted as a printer's cutter in the 1939 Register.

70 Craven Avenue , Plymouth C.B., Devon

Percy   Davey   27 Dec 1887   Male   Printers Cutter   Married
Caroline S   Davey   31 Oct 1890   Female Unpaid Domestic Duties   Married

In the 1901 census, the family were living at:

16, Kensington Terrace, Plymouth, Devon

Clara   Davey   Head   Widow   Female   46   1855   News Agent   Plymouth, Devon, England
John   Davey   Son   Single   Male   19   1882   Carpenter's Apprentice   Plymouth, Devon, England
Percy   Davey   Son   Single   Male   13   1888   News Boy   Plymouth, Devon, England
Cecil   Davey   Son   Single   Male   9   1892   -   Plymouth, Devon, England

In the 1911 census, Percy was boarding in Battersea and was, by then, a Printer's Cutter.

During what period was this P. Davey living at 53 Embankment Road Plymouth? Was he still a Printer's Cutter? Did the Mother still own a newsagent? No idea. :)

The practise of stamping the details of the premises the cigarettes was sold on the back of the card contained in those cigarettes was not uncommon. The red Ogdens book registers 85, including this one but there has been approximately another 15 found, and likely more to follow.

However the cards are usually differrant and usually the Guinea Golds.

This card is from the adopted series name, General interest item 97 without full stop. Distiquished a a "Tab type" as it does not state "Tabs' anywhere.
Always looking for interesting cards and associated goods issued by Ogden's you can see samples of cards I am looking for in the wants section.
Best Regards David
