Combined Hobbies
« on: April 12, 2012, 06:16:43 PM »
Do any of our members combine card collecting with another hobby or collection?

One member of our card club is visiting every Church pictured on Churcmans set East Suffolk Churches. At the time of writing he has only one more to visit.

As for myself I like vintage wooden jigsaw puzzles.
After one such purchase on ebay I discovered the seller cut his own puzzles.I thought it would be a good idea to have one cut from a card in my collection (A&BC Battle).I had the card enlarged and from the photo this is the result. It was very hard to complete as it was linecut, which means the pieces are cut to the edge of each colour with minimal overlapping.

My combined hobby is cigarette cards with a connection to Military Uniforms and Napoleonic Wars, this with my other collecting hobby of Napoleonic soldiers and figures gels very well together.

Cards and collecting Moorcroft Pottery. No
connection  - which is what I intended, ie 2
disparate collecting challenges.

Also  I can drop a card and not have a heart
attack and I can clean pottery by washing -
just make sure I don't get these benefits the
wrong way round!

Do you collect the older pieces of Moorcroft or the modern?

The Moorcroft I have seen on auction shows such as Flog it look very attractive.
The colours seem too merge into each other.

I have about 30 that I made from model kits, very time consuming but very theraputic, plus about another 300 mounted and foot figures scale is 54mm.

Had a spate of senior finger trouble in replying so here goes -
again!

It's the pre-1953 pieces though I do have a couple of 1970s
pots. The later pieces have more defined tube-lining  which
is why the earlier pieces' colours seem to merge/dissipate.
Had better shut up - after all, this is a card forum!.

do you mean the del prado figurines ?
i collected all the series issued from del prado, and the're great figurines

when it comes to a combined hobby, that is true for me, as i first collected the brooke bond tea various natural history cards when young, and i turned the study of the various earth and life sciences into a hobby and career.
it is the career, or should i say hobby, that got me back into card collecting around ten years ago, so i am back to where i first started when young
